Martezie (My Little Poetry Book)
is a collection of some of my unspoken thoughts, poems or anti poems that I have been noting down over last 12 years and decided to share with my friends now as a thank you for their incredible support over the years.
Why Martezie? What does it mean? In Czech, we say ‘poezie’ for poetry, and because I would not dare to call my writings as noble as poetry (poezie), I call it Martezie, Martina’s way of writing. (Martetry would probably be the literal translation, but it doesn’t look / sound well, so let`s not use it :)
It is also paying off of the debt I have towards the beauteous Czech language – as you may know I sing and write my songs mostly in English. So it is a way for me to keep some balance in my creativity, because I am a big lover of the Czech language and Czech poetry (unlike most of Czech music).
The texts are (mostly) in chronological order, so the book has sort of a biographical character.
Many of the texts were written in apartment of my close hippie friend Marek, where I was living repeatedly. This place is called Třískárna (= Smashing room), because it is okay to get loud there – that`s just to explain about the location note at the bottom of most of the texts.
There is an original graphic artwork attached to every book, made by my very special friend Viktorie Anna Grohová, who always makes me feel silly and laugh in the least appropriate situations. She made four different types:

We also included four of her other wonderful pictures inside of the book, where these help to divide it into chapters or life periods. Big thanks go to Eliška Kosová, who did all the graphics!!!
Martezie je sbírkou všelijakých mých textů, básní, nebásní a myšlenek různých stylů a kvalit, nahromaděných za posledních 12 let, které jsem se letos rozhodla vydat a darovat svým přátelům ve formě milé knížky.
Je to také určitý způsob vyrovnání mého dluhu vůči češtině, v níž zpívám velmi zřídka, což ovšem neznamená, že bych ji snad neměla ráda, ba naopak! Spíš ji však spojuji s mluveným nebo psaným projevem, než se zpěvem.
Texty jsou řazeny chronologicky, takže knížka má i biografický charakter, určitá životní období jsou zde rozdělena ilustracemi od mé krásné přítelkyně Viktorie Anny Grohové, která každou knížku vybavila také originálním grafickým listem – vytvořila dokonce čtyři různé druhy:

Velké poděkování patří Elišce Kosové, jež se chopila veškerých grafických prací spojených s vydáním knížky.
